For schools and districts
The record has to be right, because it goes somewhere.
Service hours end up in graduation requirements, scholarships and applications. That rules out a few shortcuts.
- Hours are derived, never stored as a total
- A student's total is worked out fresh every time it is shown, by adding up the hours from every shift where they were marked present. Nobody can type a number into a total. It changes only when an attendance record changes, or when an organizer cancels an event before it is complete, which takes that event's hours out of the total, and the student is told.
- Confirmed and self-reported never blur together
- Hours an organizer confirmed are one kind of record. Service a student logs from elsewhere is another: it stays in their own private log, is never added to their credited hours, and is not on their profile or transcript. There is no approval path that turns the second into the first.
- Every change is on a permanent ledger
- Every change to an attendance record is written to a permanent ledger, along with who made it, and an automated check compares the ledger with the records and reports any disagreement as a defect. Once an organizer closes out an event's hours, no credited record on it can be changed by anyone. A disputed hour can be investigated rather than argued about.
- Transcripts carry the platform's name, not an organizer's
- Every service transcript carries the same printed signatory line, Mahit Pulavarthi, Founder of WeVolunteer, rather than an organizer's name, so it does not change when an organizer's account does. It lists only hours organizers confirmed, and unlike a certificate it has no code a school can check. Holding a WeVolunteer certificate? Anyone can check its code.
WeVolunteer is independent of your school
Your school does not run it and does not control a student's account. How long records are kept, who a family writes to, and the age rule (13 or older, checked when an account is made) are all set out in the Privacy Policy. Privacy requests go to privacy@wevolunteers.org
